PRODUCTS "BUY NOW" vs. "ON DISPLAY"
Suppliers can publish products either "BUY NOW" or "on display" on projectmaterials.com.
When a product is "BUY NOW", buyers can add it to a shopping cart and check out the order as on any standard e-commerce website (with one key difference, projectmaterials.com is not the seller of the product, the seller is the supplier that published the product).
When a product is "on display", the buyer can only send an inquiry to the seller online and negotiate the deal on a case by case basis.
Supplier chooses whether a product is "BUY NOW" or "on display" at product posting:
Products "BUY NOW"
Suppliers shall enter a price and a stock quantity for products "BUY NOW".
Such products show a buy button on their detail page. If a buyer clicks on the "buy" button of a product "BUY NOW", the product is added to the buyer's shopping cart and the buyer can check the order out.
Upon order check out, we generate a single "purchase order" for the buyer and separate "sales orders" for each involved supplier. Buyer can enter purchase order numbers for each seller orders.
Products "BUY NOW" are standard products, products "on display" require negotiations between the buyer and the supplier to finalize an order.
Buyer XYZ orders product A from supplier 1, product B from supplier 2, and product C from supplier 3 (adding these products to its shopping cart and checking out).
Upon check out, our system creates one purchase order for the buyer with products A, B and C and 3 separate sales orders for each supplier, i.e. a sale order for supplier 1 with product A, a sale order for supplier 2 with product B and a sale order for supplier 3 with product C. Buyer can enter a PO number for supplier 1, a PO number for supplier 2, and a PO number for supplier 3, but can track the order on our platform as a single order with 3 suppliers for convenience.
In the products search page, you can click on the "Buy Now Products" checkbox to see only the "BUY NOW" products, i.e. those that can be purchased outright.
Example of product "BUY NOW" (shows the "Add to Cart" button):
Products "On Display"
Suppliers may also decide to showcase their products instead of selling them directly. For such products, that we call "on display", buyers do not see a "Buy" button on the product page, rather a "contact" button. Interested buyers can contact the supplier and negotiate the deal via our messaging application.
The supplier decides which of its products are "BUY NOW" or "on disBUY NOW" can be switched to "on display" status, and vice-versa, at any time.
Example of product "on display" (shows the "Contact" button only, it can't be added to shopping cart):
